Pet abandonment

Written by Tiziano Leonel and Carlota Varela.

Pet abandonment means leaving pets alone in awful circumstances or permitting it. Unfortunately, nowadays is a very common theme which must be eradicated but that criminals who do it don’t pay as they must. I think we could talk for those who have no voice.

You should know that adopting animals is better than buying them, because, many animals are abandoned and there isn’t enough space to leave them in the animal shelter so, many of them are slaughtered because they can’t be fed, we must save them. Many animals are abandoned on Christmas (around 600 pets on holidays) because people gift them to persons who can’t care of them and, finally, they’re abandoned.

What can I do if I can’t take care of it?

-I can give him to another person, for example: a friend, a relative…
-I can leave him in the animal shelter.

But, before you adopt a pet, you must know if you can take care of it:

-Do you have time to play with it?

Pets love to be loved and it isn’t enough to buy them things if you don’t stay with them.

-Do you have money to feed it?

Pets need to eat because they need to grow healthy and strong.

-Will you clean their excrements?

You must clean their excrements if you want have a pet in an apartment.

-Do you live in a house or a flat?

Pets need to run and play on the grass, not to be locked in a small flat. If you live in a flat but you want to have a pet, look for a relative who have an open place to care of it.

-Will you love it until the end?

You have to love it even when it grows.

Another way to help would be by paying some money to animal shelters which need it. There are many animal shelters which don't have enough resources to take care of the animals they have. We can help animals to have a comfortable place to live.
